TRADITIONAL RUG HOOKING

Class Description:

This one day workshop is for individuals who have hooked previously. Participants will l hook a pictorial garden including sunflowers, baby’s breath, hollyhocks, and gladiolas in a #3 and #4 cut of wool. Shaped proddy and a variety of pixelating techniques will be covered.      The materials fee of $ 17.00 is paid to the instructor for a 10”x 17” pattern on cotton warp cloth. Wools will be available for purchase. 

 
WEAVING

Class Description: This class is designed for anyone interested in exploring a variety of weaving techniques. No prior weaving experience is required. Cardboard looms, straw looms, box looms and a 4-harness table loom will be used during the 4 weeks of class. Each student will create a small pouch (good for cell phones or ipods), a scarf, a tote bag and a table mat. All materials will be provided by the instructor however students are welcome to bring favorite yarns to be incorporated into projects, if desired. A materials fee of $10.00 is due to the instructor.

Class Description: Basic Knitting is for anyone. Whether you have never knit or just begun to knit, the class explores the fundamentals of knitting in a fun and nurturing group setting. Students will be shown how to knit both Continental Method and English Method. Students will learn basic knitting skills including: knit, purl, cast on, cast off, basic stitch patterns, how to read knitting abbreviations and patterns. A materials fee of $15 is due to the instructor at the first class.

Beyond Basic Knitting

Class Description: This class is for students who have completed the Basic Knitting class or who have basic knitting skills. Students must be able to knit, purl, and cast on. Beyond Basic Knitting class explores how to deconstruct the knitting pattern and tackles more advanced knit and purl stitches. Small projects will be assigned to students. Students may complete the project with the support of the instructor just in time for the holidays! A materials fee of $15 is due to the instructor at the first class.

Class Description: The Friday Morning Knitting Class is designed to meet the needs of the basic to intermediate knitter. Each week students will engage in a knitting lesson including: how to deconstruct a garment pattern, learning yarn over to knit eyelets and lace patterns, exploring cables. Followed by an open knit session to practice the technique related to the lesson. A sign up sheet at the beginning of class is available to students to have an opportunity to consult with the instructor one on one during the second half of the class’ open knit session. Students may discuss personal knitting projects or other knitting questions at this time. A materials fee of $15 is due to the instructor at the first class.


WEAVING

Rags to Rugs: An Introduction to Weaving

Class Description: Rags to Rugs: An Introduction to Weaving will demonstrate various techniques to produce a finished woven work. Techniques included are: Twining, a rag rug weaving method done on a frame loom. Latch Hook using pantyhose- a fun twist for an old fashion technique using recyclable material. Woven, a technique using a small floor loom with cotton warp. Demonstrating the Woven technique, the instructor again will make use of more recyclable materials weaving with tube socks, plastic bags, videotape and other fibers to produce a floor mat. Traditional American Rug Hooking, an American art form of rug making which uses wool strips to form beautiful designs, the instructor will introduce the basics techniques used.

Twined Rugs Workshop

Twining is a rag rug weaving method that is done on a frame loom. Students will learn the fundamentals of twined weaving in this all day workshop. The workshop will be a combination demonstration and hands-on activities so all students can actively participate in weaving using the twining techniques learned.
